Online Tutorial - Starting up Stratum 2000


Objectives Learning the Stratum 2000 interface.

Assuming that you have logged into Windows 95, simply click the Start Button (it is placed in the bottom left corner of the screen), move the mouse pointer on the line  Programs , then on the line  Stratum for Windows. Now select the Stratum 2000 application by clicking the left mouse button on it. The screen you have got looks as follows:

The interface consists of the Title Bar, the   Menu Bar and the  Tool Bar also known as the  Button Bar and Work Area.
Menu Items Click the menu name  to open it and look through its options. Click the option name to choose the option.
File - Commands for the projects and files: create, open, save, print and other.
Edit - Commands for editing  graphics and texts.
View - Commands for interface control and show of special windows.
Insert - Commands for new objects creation on the scheme and for the objects import.
Format - Commands for editing various project objects.
Modeling - Commands for the control of modeling.
Options - Commands for set of environment and project preferences .
Window - Commands for control of  windows appearance and layout.
Help - Help system.
Tool Bars The Tool Bar is below the Menu Bar over the Work Area. These buttons make your work with Stratum 2000 easily. Just position the mouse cursor in front of the button to get the descriptions of its functions.
Standard Tool Bar - contain the most often used commands - load/save, edit, show in special windows.
Drawing Tool Bar - contain tools used for drawing.
Control Tool Bar - contain commands controling start, pause and stop of simulation.

The Open Existing File button

First  the File - Open command is executed. The dialogue box will appear in the centre of the screen. Two ways of   identifying the file are possible:
  • you can simply type the full name of the required file  and then press [Enter] (example: c\stratum\samples\l1\<file name> , where -  "c:" - drive;    "\stratum\samples\l1\"- directory path;  <file name> - the name of the file, Stratum itself assumes the file type)
  • you can double-click on "projects" in the main window, double-click on "samples", and finally select "l1" and click Open - this process of moving through the directories in order to find a file is generally called "navigating".

The project  loaded into Stratum 2000 can be executed by the Modeling - Start command. The project can be suspended  during its run-time by the Modeling - Pause command.To stop the  execution of the  project  use the Modeling - Stop command.
You can look the contents of objects on the scheme in any project. For this you should double-click the object.The dialog box with its properties is open.

 

When you have finished your work with the sample project, you can exit from Stratum 2000 by executing the File - Exit command.
